Due to the unusually low water level of the Columbia River, the City of Castlegar is requiring that all pets be leashed in all areas of Millennium Park and Zuckerberg Island with the exception of the fully enclosed off-leash dog park.

The restriction includes the off-leash dog beach area.

Zuckerberg Island is already designated as an on-leash area, but the restriction is frequently ignored. Most of Millennium Park is also designated as on-leash.

The city says the rules will be enforced and fines of up to $100 may be issued for non-compliance.

The restrictions will remain in place until further notice.
