Nellie Laren

In Loving Memory ~

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (Baba) and great-grandmother (Old Baba), Nellie Laren.

Nellie was born in Krestova, BC, on March 27, 1936, to Massey and Nastia Antufaeff one hour before her twin brother John. Nellie spent her early years working in various farms and orchards in the Kootenays and Okanagan.

Nellie married Larry Laren in December 1956. Their family was complete as Teresa, Nina, Lisa and Leona were born.

In May 1972, sadly Larry passed away, leaving Nellie to raise their four daughters. Although Nellie's life was met with many struggles and challenges, her perseverance, strength, and independence allowed her to raise their four daughters with love and commitment. Nellie then relocated from Kelowna back to the Kootenays.

Nellie was humorous, thoughtful, and loved to laugh. Her calm nature, kindness and loving ways touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Nellie is predeceased by her husband, Larry Laren; sisters Mary Gienger and Helen Johnson; and brother Bill.

Nellie is survived by her four daughters Teresa (John) Hlookoff, children Tara, and Shawn (Kylie); Nina (Sandy) Hoodicoff, sons Dale, Todd (daughters Katie and Maiya), and Evan (Robyn); Lisa (Shane) Milligan, daughters Grace (Wilfred) and Sophie; and Leona Laren (son Zachary Tereposky).

Nellie is also survived by her twin brother, John.

Nellie was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She definitely created and left a legacy in her lifetime.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Castle Wood Village for being so attentive and respectful of Nellie. Thank you also to the caring staff at KBRH.

Service will be held at Krestova Prayer Hall on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Krestova Cemetery.
