In Loving Memory ~

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Margaret (Marg) Poohachoff. She was a lifelong resident of Castlegar with numerous ties within the local community.

Marg was born in Nelson BC to proud parents Natasha and Alex Lactin, the youngest of four girls. She spent her formative years growing up in Ootischenia living a traditional Doukhobor lifestyle. She attended elementary school in Ootischenia and was a graduate of Stanley Humphries Secondary in Castlegar.

Her working career began at an early age with The Bank of Montreal in Castlegar before eventually retiring from Selkirk College. She held the role of Executive Assistant to the President and Board of Governors for over 30 years. She loved her job and especially the people she interacted with every day.

Throughout her life Marg was involved in numerous community functions such as the Ootischenia Ladies Cooking Group, serving as Director and Board Chair of the Heritage Credit Union, Communities in Bloom, the Castlegar Soup Kitchen and as a Director with the Castlegar Public Library.

Marg was an adventurer and loved to travel the world to witness and experience different cultures and lifestyles. From the USA to Europe to the Far East and Malaysia, she had many memorable trips and stories to share. She especially cherished her trips to Florence Italy where she shared special time with her grandson Alex.

She was an exceptional cook, pastry chef, borscht maker and a very talented seamstress. Marg was also a passionate gardener and horticulturist as her vegetable garden and wide variety of flowers and shrubs were truly stunning. She also enjoyed harvesting and preserving her many garden vegetables and fruits.

Marg lived an active lifestyle participating in numerous exercise classes, cross-country skiing in the winter, hiking and lounging on a small beach by the Slocan River during the summer, but her favorite activity was playing Pickleball with her friends. She loved to entertain and enjoyed family gatherings as well as a glass of good red wine.

Marg is survived by her loving children Dina Poohachoff and Christopher Poohachoff, grandson Alex Poohachoff, sisters Nettie Nazaroff and Virginia Ingram as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband Paul Poohachoff, parents Alex and Natasha Lactin and sister Elaine Kurenoff.

Marg leaves behind a legacy in community spirit and her impact on Castlegar will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
