Jesse Knowler and Taylor Anderson each scored in the second period, and Alex Ross made 21 saves as the Castlegar Rebels shut out Osoyoos 2-0 Wednesday to even the KIJHL finals at 2-2.

City council has agreed to provide one-third of the requested sponsorship by organizers of a popular outdoor endurance race set for the West Kootneay this summer.

From March 11 to 13, the 18th annual Max-Ice Tournament was held. The tournament took place at the Castlegar Complex and Pioneer Arena with 16 teams participating (12 mens, 4 womens). The tournament was in “Round Robin” format with the Kootenay Chicks winning the Ladies Division, the Cellar Dwellers winning the Gentlemen’s and the Axe Men (pictured here) winning the Competitive division. On March 12, Max-Ice had their dinner and dance and raised over $2,000 for charities in our community.

Ryan Aynsley fired home a one-timer 1:39 into overtime to give the Castlegar Rebels their first victory of the KIJHL finals, 2-1 over the Osoyoos Coyotes in Game 3 Tuesday night at the Complex.

OSOYOOS -- Corey Allen's wrist-shot in the opening minute of the third period served as the difference as the Osoyoos Coyotes took a 2-0 lead in the KIJHL final with a 3-2 victory over the Castlegar Rebels Sunday.

OSOYOOS -- C.J. Kort's second-period goal held up as the winner as the Osoyoos Coyotes nipped the Castlegar Rebels 2-1 in the KIJHL finals opener Saturday night.

During the West Kootenay final in Rossland two weeks ago, Castlegar’s Atom Warriors and Jr. Rebels battled to a 7-7 tie over three periods. After overtime, with still no declared winner, the coaches agreed shootouts would put too much pressure on the players and decided to share the title.

Fifty-three competitors took part in a bouldering competition at Selkirk College over the weekend, the most ever in an increasingly popular event now in its fourth year.

Kyle Chernenkoff had no idea he was being scouted for a Western Canadian team while playing hockey last spring. It wasn’t until the scout searched him and his family out at a tournament in Calgary that Chernenkoff first started thinking about taking his hockey to the next level.
